6 days & 5 nights
connectivity in Spiti is sparse and unreliable. While Manali has excellent coverage for all networks, once you cross the Atal Tunnel, most signals die. In Kaza (Spiti Headquarters), only Jio (4G) and BSNL (Postpaid) function reasonably well. Airtel and Vodafone are virtually non-existent in the valley. Be prepared for a total digital detox at Chandratal Lake and during the travel days, as there is absolutely no signal in these remote stretches.
The drive is adventurous and can be physically demanding. The route from Manali to Kaza involves crossing riverbeds, driving over boulders, and navigating unpaved dirt tracks, particularly the notorious Gramphu-Batal stretch. Because the road is bumpy and winding, motion sickness is common even for seasoned travelers. Touch Sky Holidays mitigates this by using high-suspension vehicles like Innovas or Tempo Travellers and expert hill drivers, but we strongly recommend carrying medication like Avomine and avoiding heavy meals before the drive.
Acclimatization is the most critical part of this trip. Since you are ascending from 2,000m to 4,500m rapidly, your body will need time to adjust to lower oxygen levels. Mild symptoms like headaches or breathlessness are normal. To manage this, you must drink 3–4 liters of water daily to keep your blood oxygenated and strictly avoid alcohol for the entire trip. Touch Sky drivers carry a medical kit and oxygen cylinder for emergencies, so inform your Trip Captain immediately if you feel dizzy or nauseous.
You should manage your expectations for the camping night. In Kaza, you will stay in hotels or homestays with standard Western toilets and running water. However, Chandratal Lake is an eco-sensitive zone where permanent construction is banned. The accommodation here consists of Swiss Tents, and the washrooms are typically dry pit toilets or temporary tent-toilets without running water. Wet wipes and hand sanitizers are essential items to pack for this specific night.
Electricity is available but inconsistent. Hotels in Kaza generally have power, but the valley faces frequent and long power cuts, especially during bad weather. At the Chandratal Camps, there is no grid electricity; camps usually run a generator for 1–2 hours in the evening for basic lighting and charging, but charging points are limited and crowded. It is highly recommended to carry a high-capacity Power Bank (10,000mAh+) to ensure your devices survive the trip.
